Olivier Rousteing has been officially appointed as the new creative director of Rabanne. Puig, the company that owns the brand, stated that this is a “new important stage in the evolution of Rabanne.” The former creative director of Balmain, who left his position in November 2025 after 14 years of work, will present his first collection for Rabanne during Paris Fashion Week in March – as part of the Fall-Winter 2027/2028 season.

“Joining Rabanne is a great honor. It is a House that has always challenged traditions, transforming bold ideas into creations that have made fashion history. The unexpected announcement of the appointment took place on July 14. In the official portrait, Olivier Rousteing holds an iconic silver metal chainmail dress by Rabanne, with a notebook and pen on the table before him.

Rousteing’s aesthetic during his time at Balmain was known for its bold silhouettes, intricate embellishments, and love for striking details – characteristics that perfectly align with Rabanne’s DNA and its legendary metal dresses.

The designer is currently 40 years old and has 15 years of experience as a creative director. When Olivier Rousteing took over Balmain in 2011, he became the youngest designer without founder status to lead a major Parisian fashion house since Yves Saint Laurent’s appointment at Dior.

During his tenure at Balmain, Rousteing created the “Balmain Army” phenomenon – an influential community of models, celebrities, and influencers, including members of the Kardashian family. In an era where celebrities have become a primary driver of the fashion industry, the designer brings not only his creative energy to Rabanne but also the immense power of social media. His Instagram boasts 9.4 million followers, while Rabanne has around 1.9 million.

The appointment followed Olivier Rousteing’s highly publicized return last May when he created a custom gown for Beyoncé for the Met Gala. The outfit consisted of a nude base with crystal “skeletal” embroidery that extended to the fingertips.

According to Rabanne representatives, under Olivier Rousteing’s leadership, the brand will continue to expand its ecosystem by developing new product categories and fostering a continuous dialogue between fashion, beauty, and innovation.
