“Normal People”, 2020

“Normal People” became one of the most memorable series of the pandemic era. This delicate 12-episode story about love, intimacy, and the painful inability to let each other go continues to resonate with viewers. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal are incredible here, portraying Marianne and Connell, two young people who repeatedly return to each other but struggle to build a simple, happy relationship. Their narrative begins amidst the windswept landscapes of County Sligo and later unfolds at Trinity College in Dublin. The role of Marianne earned Daisy Edgar-Jones nominations for a BAFTA, Critics’ Choice Award, and Golden Globe. Paul Mescal received a BAFTA for his portrayal of Connell. The series itself propelled both actors to global stardom almost instantly.

“Fresh”, 2022

Director Mimi Cave’s horror film about cannibalism is best watched on an empty stomach. For Daisy Edgar-Jones, “Fresh” marked an unexpected and highly successful move after the triumph of “Normal People.” She plays a quiet, unassuming young woman weary of unsuccessful dates. One day, she meets a mysterious and incredibly charming man, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, and quickly becomes infatuated. There’s just one catch: he’s actually a psychopath who consumes human flesh and sells the meat of his victims. However, he clearly underestimates his new captive. She is prepared to fight for herself and strike back. “Fresh” was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, yet it remains significantly less known to the general audience than it deserves. This is a shame, as even years later, the film has lost none of its sharpness or its power to truly shock.

“Under the Banner of Heaven”, 2022

The role in the series “Under the Banner of Heaven” earned Daisy Edgar-Jones another Golden Globe nomination. In Dustin Lance Black’s crime drama, based on true events, Andrew Garfield plays the lead role. Edgar-Jones portrays Brenda, a young woman caught in the center of a mysterious story connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Brenda could easily have been reduced to a stereotypical portrayal of a woman from a conservative Mormon community. However, in Edgar-Jones’s performance, she is intelligent, devout, compassionate, and simultaneously strong. She possesses her own opinions and is unwilling to silently submit to men demanding her obedience. It is this inner strength that makes her character so compelling and unforgettable.

“Twisters”, 2024

Here, Daisy Edgar-Jones makes a foray into big Hollywood cinema. In the blockbuster “Twisters,” she stars alongside Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos. Her character, Kate, is a meteorologist who leaves her office job in New York to return to her native Oklahoma to once again “chase” storms. The entire narrative of director Lee Isaac Chung’s film rests on Kate. If there were still doubts after her previous roles about whether Daisy Edgar-Jones was ready for the status of a major movie star, “Twisters” definitively answers that question.

“On Swift Horses”, 2024

Daisy Edgar-Jones’s subtle and restrained performance as Muriel is enough reason to watch director Daniel Minahan’s sweeping love story. Muriel lives in the 1950s and is gradually drifting away from her husband, played by Will Poulter. Concurrently, she finds herself increasingly drawn to her new neighbor, portrayed by Sasha Calle. Initially, Muriel’s appearance seems to reveal everything about her. Perfectly coiffed hair, bright red lipstick, pearls, and neat pillbox hats create a very specific impression of this woman. However, it quickly becomes apparent that this first impression is deceptive. Daisy Edgar-Jones gradually unveils different facets of her character, shattering the expectations formed upon initial acquaintance with Muriel.
