Following Pierpaolo Piccioli’s appointment as Balenciaga’s creative director, it was almost a foregone conclusion that the City Bag would feature as a key accessory in his debut collection. At the Spring/Summer 2026 show, the designer unveiled several new variations of the model: crafted from chocolate suede, black, and beige leather, alongside a striking fuchsia iteration. The streamlined forms underscored Piccioli’s intention to restore the bag’s elegance without compromising its inherent character.
The most significant surprise awaited brand enthusiasts during Pierpaolo Piccioli’s inaugural couture presentation for the Fall/Winter 2026/2027 season. It was here that the designer revealed a completely novel interpretation of the iconic handbag. Only two versions appeared on the runway, yet they emerged as some of the collection’s most striking accessories.
One iteration was fashioned entirely from silver metal, while the other was encrusted with a pink crystal mesh, evoking the appearance of fine jewelry. These pieces complemented Piccioli’s architectural ensembles: a milky white t-shirt dress and an elegant coat crafted from crepe, silk, and wool, paired with trousers adorned with organza petals.
